RSC18 - May Pinks and Roses

This month I started with an odd shaped piece, then added fabric going around like a log cabin. Two pieces have the same fabric - oops!  Didn't mean to do that.  All the solid pink looks alike don't they?  There is one piece toward the center that reads as solid, but it has a pattern woven in the piece - I bought that while on a trip to NYC.   The larger piece with stripes was purchased by the much younger me and my mom in the 1960s. Fun to see it again.

RSC18: April Golds and Yellow

I pulled from my yellow and gold scraps to create this block:

 I will trim later.  This collection of fabric kept wanting to be a rectangle so to get it sewn I listened to the fabrics!  There are so many bias cuts in this piece, the first time I was really conscience of the effect it could have if one is not careful...

Not Quilting

Last weekend we went to San Diego Music Center for a SDSU Event.  It was a wonderful collection of art: Winds Orchestra, Modern Dance, Marching Band, Orchestra, Solos by graduating senior, and Chorus.  Around 400 students were in the production.  It's only the second time they have done this.  Hopefully now it will be in our calendar to enjoy again next year!

Before the event we went to Waters downtown for a wonderful raw seafood plate.  This is the upper floor, empty in the day time.  No doubt hopping at night.

Before we left the house we discovered several cocoons on the cement rock at the front of the house.  Will be interesting to monitor and see if we get to see what comes out!

RSC18 - March Bright and Light Greens

I took my scrap box and went thru it looking for light and bright greens.  Most of the bright greens were set in dark backgrounds so I stayed away from them for now.

The remaining greens had a lot of other colors included, but I decided to just go with it.  This set of fabrics started as cut offs from long ago projects that I don't even remember now.  I'm guessing some Block Lotto blocks - but who knows?

Trimmed as the others have been to 12.5 inch square.

Have you seen the Postcards from Sweden QAL?  Louise from the QuiltOdyssey is doing it and it looks like such a pretty project.  Guess I'll be adding it to my list of things to do...  But I know that I'm also going to need to be working on gathering things for the tax preparer so it will be my reward to myself to work on the the Postcards from Sweden quilt /after/ I have found and recorded what needs to be done for that first.

It's been colder than usual here and I'm finding it difficult to keep to plans for doing paperwork.  Today I did manage to eat a bunch of peanut butter and watch a few episodes of "Crazy Ex-Girlfriend".  It's silly/sweet/sad but it's fun to hear the mentions of streets and things in West Covina - where I was raised! I'm up to Year 1 #11 - "That Text Was Not Meant for Josh!".  And I did sew the one block for the RSC...

RSC18 - February Purple and Lavender

I've been fiddling with the scraps for a few days, but finally got my RSC18 block for the month completed...

It almost looks like two blocks just sewn together, ah well.  Hopefully will look nice when someday all sewn together!

RSC18 - Light & Medium Blues

I have finally finished something in 2018 that counts as quilting!!!

For several years, Angela has been hosting the Rainbow Scrap Challenge.  I am back to taking the challenge, my way.   I'm going to continue to make one block a month...

So I got out my box of scraps! and was pleased to see the light blues on the top, that made it easy...

And my 14 inch ruler - picked out the light and medium blue scraps, and made this one block:

I'm a slow sewer and worker, but perhaps this year will get more things done.  These scrap color blocks will be combined with the blocks I did in 2016 and make a nice comfy quilt. Here are the posts from 2016, the last time I did these kinds of blocks...
